I Wish I could Afford the Laptop I Want
When I began looking for a laptop recently, I was not sure what I wanted mine to do.
I knew I wanted a lightweight but fully functional type of computer because I would be taking it back and forth from the office to home. With a bad back I knew I wanted something that wouldn’t drag me down over time.
But, because I needed to use it for business, it had to be fully functional. The Macbook Air seemed to be a viable option.
With a full sized keyboard I knew I would be able to type all day on it without as much hand cramps as are caused by many of the other smaller notebooks and laptops.
It also offered a green option because it does not have lead or mercury in the screen. I’m not one of the crazy global warming freaks, but I do consider the fact that there is a ton of waste in the world that probably does contribute to the overall health of humans and animals alike.
I’d like to get this little piece of technology but I guess I need to find a free Macbook air before I can actually afford one!
Getting it All Together
I would have to say that I am not the most organized person on the planet. Honestly, I hate to make lists, and follow any sort of steps – I just do my own thing when it comes to pretty much everything.
I take the same approach when I create websites. If it wasn’t for my quick and easy web design software, I don’t think that I would be able to create a website at all. I just wouldn’t have the patience to do it properly.
But, the one thing that I like is that the software package that I use helps me put all the pieces together in an easy fashion. I don’t need to code, and they even have a JavaScript menu builder included.
It still takes me awhile to go from the concept to the final product – but it is nice when I am done and have it all put together.
My Dad is Driving Me Nuts
My dad is a health food nut. He is always getting me to try new things, stating that I will surely die if I don’t. One day he is making me drink liquid Zeolite and the next he is preaching at me about how I do not take my cranberry pills often enough. I am sure that he thinks I should be dead already because I have not discovered the heath benefits of eating soy nuts.
His latest kick is natural cellular defense and he is driving me absolutely crazy. He goes on and on about the toxins in the air we breathe, as if I could do anything about it. The other day I finally told him that I would just quit breathing if that would make him happier. He told me that I would have no choice if I didn’t buck up and take care of myself.
It is to the point where I just set the phone down and I watch TV or do a crossword puzzle while he rants away. I can’t wait until he moves on to a new topic. It would be nice if it was one that I could actually do something about. The next time he tells me to quit drinking milk because it will give me cancer, I think I will tell him not to worry because I have already switched to tequila.
It’s All in the Focus
It’s funny how once you focus on something, whether it’s a new car you’re considering or an unfamiliar phrase, that you suddenly see or hear it everywhere. In reality, the car or the phrase have been out there. What changed was that they just came within your radar.
This happened to me after learning about Mixed Martial Arts, also known as MMA. I was blissfully unaware of this combat sport (just the word "combat" conjures up images of dead bodies for me) until students taught me a little about it. They introduced me to TapouT clothing, and assured me that there was even an entire television series devoted to MMA called Tapout.
Now I’m seeing MMA this and MMA that everywhere I turn. I watch one television program that is only in reruns now and exclusively on a male-oriented channel. Now I’m understanding some of the commercials I’m forced to watch. And I’m wondering how I missed MMA before now? It’s so, well…in your face!
The Best Idea my Parents ever had
When my best friend went away to school a few years ago, her parents set up a toll free number for her.
This allowed her friends back home and all of her family to call her without costing them a dime. It was pretty cool too because they were able to get a personalized number that had her name on it.
This made it easy to remember her toll free service number and it rang through to her cell or house phone as she designated.
She has a large family and they are all super close to each other so this was a smart investment on her parent’s part. With four sisters and numerous cousins and aunts and uncles to keep up with, she is on the phone constantly.
For us friends, it was great too. My finances aren’t that great in the first place so having to make long distance calls was out of the question. This helped a ton and I think more parents should do it for their kids when they go off to school.
Blogging for Profit in more ways than one
So, you joined a great company and are hoping for MLM success. Do you know how you are going to achieve that? Are you just going to talk your friends, neighbor’s and family’s ears off?
Man, I hope not! You really need to get acquainted with the Internet and marketing on line before you can ever hope to have really successful MLM lead generation that actually results in people joining under you and making sales.
One great way to get on the Internet marketing bandwagon is by blogging. Don’t tell me that you don’t know what a blog is! It is sort of like an online diary that the world can read, but it can be used for professional or business reasons and is the best way to share information about your company, products and yourself.
Many of the most successful people out there are blogging for profit in more ways than one.
Water, Water Everywhere
When I was going through the trauma of a year’s separation in 2000, a friend of mine introduced me to herbal supplements that were unlike anything she’d tried for decades. She was helping out family and friends using the muscle testing technique in conjunction with the supplements.
It was from her that I first learned about reverse osmosis. It was a term I’d never encountered before, (although I knew the term osmosis by itself). She gave me examples of the brands of bottled water that used this process, plus let me know that it was possible to have a system installed at the tap.
So when my mother was spending quite a bit on bottled water from the supermarket, I told her about a local company that could filter her water with a healthier-than-bottled system. We’re using it now and the water has no chlorine taste at all. I love it.
Get em Before they can Buy Them
If you are a music lover and like to see the bands or artist perform live, you can sometimes find free presale information for show locations on the fan websites. There are other websites that also help provide this type of information but please be careful about where you buy tickets and don’t buy information that you don’t have to.
Presale tickets can be bought for many shows, but not all towns or event venues may allow this so do your homework and be willing to drive to another location if needed. This applies for any type of show also, not just music concerts. Comedy and special acts like Blue Man Group also do tours and presale codes are often available for them too.
If you plan on getting out to Vegas, it might be worth checking into ticket sales before you book your trip or to see if you can get good tickets for your time there since these are available there too. Of course, that goes for any area destination you plan to visit.
Aging Parents of Baby Boomers
A friend and I were catching up via chat the other day. Her mother-in-law had a stroke recently and they’ve been searching for reputable long-term treatment centers for stroke and geriatric rehabilitation in Orange County where they live.
My mother was in a similar situation a couple of years back. We thought we’d found the best place to place her, but it began to bother me when I entered the facility and found no one at the nurse’s station and bells ringing from three or four rooms.
Mother confessed she had to wait up to 30 minutes for help getting to the bathroom. When I checked with her doctor, he just shook his head. He was actually on the board of the facility, so he was in a position to know. He said it was a trickle down effect. "When they keep changing the head administrator, everything else suffers, too." So my advice to my friend was, ask the doctor about staff turnover and caregiver-to-patient ratio.
Building a Website for a Client
From time to time I offer my services as a website designer out to clients. This really only happens when I am in a bit of a cash crunch, so those people who do get sites designed by me are lucky indeed.
Today, I have been working on a site about dog training. Honestly, I thought that there were enough of these sites out there already, but I must have been mistaken (I guess). Anyway, the client has provided me with the content, and I have been assigned the task of creating a unique site template and putting the site onto their web host.
It will be interesting to see how reliable their web host is. This will be my first experience with someone using free hosting, and depending on how it goes, I might consider using free hosting for my sites in the future.
Alright, I should get back to work – I need to have the site done by 5 PM.
