Cigars are status symbols. We often see cigars in Italian and Spanish gang films being puffed by Dons and rich gang lords. A cigar is also a contemporary of a more inexpensive and common/ commercialized cigarette. Cigars are generally handmade (at least most better tasting and more expensive examples are). They are created by fermenting tobacco leaves until it reached the desired stage.

Contrary to previous beliefs, cigars are really not safer alternatives to cigarettes. They just differ from the type of sickness you can achieve. Cigarettes usually causes lung cancer while cigars target the head and neck.

If you used to shoot film and made the switch to digital at some point, chances are you still have leftover film lying about. I had half a fridge door full of all kinds of film, some expired, some on the verge, and decided I needed to do something fun with it.

April 26 is Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day, so I thought we’d talk about pinhole cameras in this article.

Pinhole photography is nothing new – the basic optical principles are mentioned in 5th century BC texts from China, and the first documented photos taken with a pinhole camera are from the mid-1800s. You can make a pinhole camera from just about anything, and people do, but in most cases, you have to load and unload the film in total darkness, which can be tricky. If you do want to give pinhole photography a try, but prefer not to hide in a closet to put the film in, check out these cameras:

Pinhole Blender Cameras The film cameras from Pinhole Blender look like cookie and tea tins (with 2 dials on top) and come in small, medium and large format (35mm, 120 and 4×5). The small and medium format cameras can be loaded in daylight, but the 4×5 has to be done in total darkness. Holga The plastic, inexpensive Holga cameras first saw the light of day in Hong Kong in 1982, and quickly gained an almost cult-like status among photographers all over the world. The Holga pinhole cameras come in two sizes: small and medium format (for 35mm and 120 film). The 35mm version has an aperture of f/175, the medium format f/192. Both have only one shutter speed – B – which stands for Bulb and means that the shutter stays open for however long you press the shutter. Thankfully, they have standard cable release and tripod threads and come with (optional) cable releases, both of which are essential to shooting with these cameras. You advance the film at your own whim – make panoramas, double (or triple) exposures, or shoot “normal” one-frame images – it’s up to you. The deluxe package, which includes either camera, 10 rolls of film and a cable release is $100.

Pinhole Resource’s Hexomniscope For a truly unique pinhole experience, check out the Hexomniscope from Pinhole Resource. This 6-pinhole, 6-shutter, round camera uses 120 film and produces 6 overlapping 60 degree images. The shutters are individually operated, but have a single release. At $1,590, it’s not cheap, but the results are stunning.

Digital Pinhole SLR All you need to use your digital SLR for pinhole photography is an extra lens cap and a drill. Find the exact center of the lens cap and drill, from inside the cap out, as tiny a hole as you possibly can. Use the lens cap instead of a lens and voila! Pinhole camera.

So What Is Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day? It’s a worldwide annual event, held on the last Sunday in April, to encourage people to take some time off from technology and get back to basics for a day. You can use any pinhole camera (homemade is fine) but you have to take the pictures on that particular day (April 26 this year). Then upload your photos (so if you use film, you need to have it developed and scanned) and submission form, and if the “Coordinating Team” selects any of your photos, they will be displayed online.

There will be a concert by the Gypsy Nomads at The Magic Candle on April 2, 2009 the concert will start 7:00 P.M. The Magic Candle is located at 204 S., Audabon St. It will not be hard for anyone to find this because it is found at the center of Irvington.

When you attend the concert do not expect to hear the traditional gypsy songs. The Gypsy Nomads play a different kind of music it is more of a hybridized version of the gypsy music. Music that has was created from punk, folk and the vineyards of southern France. From this base type of music they added cabaret, celtic and neo-medieval flavor to make The Gypsy Nomads type of music.

The Gypsy Nomads is a girl and a boy band. With Samantha Stephenson as the vocals, percussion, drums and is the songwriter of the group. While Scott Helland that does the guitar, drums, and loops. Both of the artists are French born artists. Although they do not play the traditional gypsy kind of music their music is still very spirited just like the gypsy song is. They have been known as a high octane and exciting by people who have heard their music.

The Gypsy Nomads have traveled around US all year long; they have performed in festivals, clubs, theaters, conventions, galleries, cafes and house concerts. There wonderful combination of guitar and percussion instruments has sung their songs in English and French.

The Gypsy Nomads have had their music featured in films like Rider, they have had their music licensed by We TV Network and Harpo Production and have sold CDs about their concert performance. With all their achievements it clearly states how good their music is.

Photographs are the best way to capture a moment of joy, happiness and love. Once that moment is captured in your camera, you can always look back at it to relive it and enjoy it. Americans love movies. One of our favorite pastimes is sitting at home, or in a darkened theater, and watching the latest blockbuster hit. Personally, I prefer watching movies at home. We have got a comfortable set up, I can watch whatever I want, whenever I want if my wife agrees. And best of all, there are no interruptions from inconsiderate fellow movie-goers.

But that extensive DVD collection is not cheap, so I have discovered a few ways to add to my collection without breaking the bank.

The easiest way to do this is to check out the clearance shelves at your local discount chain stores. They tend to get the lowest prices and want to move inventory. Often you can get movies for under $5. Granted, they will not be the latest releases, but you can round out your collections with classics at these low prices.

You can also buy used DVDs. There are used DVD stores popping up around the country. These stores are especially popular around colleges and universities. Not only can you buy DVDs here, but often you can sell any of your unwanted DVDs as well. The prices are very low and the selection is large.

DVD rental stores are also a great place to look movies. Often they promote themselves as never being out of stock for new releases. That means they buy many more copies of these movies than they will need to keep on hand once the initial rush for the movie is over. So, if you can wait a bit for that blockbuster you really want to see, you can often get it at a substantial discount a few weeks after it has been released on disk.

Online retailers also often offer DVDs at lower prices. Sometimes they will offer a combo-pack, two or three movies at a reduced rate. Often you will get a movie you have not heard of in the pack, but this is a great way to see movies you would not otherwise check out. I have never seen a bull riding sport up close but am definitely eager to witness one at the forthcoming Fremont Bull Riding Classics in Nebraska. I have often see bull riding on the television and I can say that it always give me the chills to see these bull riders bodies literally being swayed by the bulls harsh and quick movements. Bull riding is considered extreme sport where only professionals and skilled riders are allowed to participate.

In bull riding, both the bull and the rider are given scores. The total of the two scores usually sum up the score for the whole competition. The participant with the highest score wins the event. Bulls are scored based on their agility, speed and bucking style. Bucking is what you call the galloping of the bull in its hind legs to throw off the rider.

Do not, whatever you do, mix your color with a white when you are glazing. Keep it really pure. If you use oil as a medium you can rub this on really thinly. Just remember to keep it pure!

If you are looking for strong, vibrant effects, get out your palette. Try putting, for example, a very strong red on top of a much weaker shade and see what prevails. You can have so much to work with to great effect. Then you could round it off with a layer of gel. Some people just prefer this.
