Grout Cleaning For Your Pets
The other day I took my normally hyperactive German Shepherd dog to the veterinarian. He looked weak and unresponsive and didn’t have much of an appetite. This concerned me a bit and so, I brought him to the vet.
But even more concerning was the diagnosis given to me by the vet. Apparently, my dog of three years had a bit of infection in his lungs and according to findings, the cause is black mold.
That was new to me. I never even knew I had black mold in my grout! I like keeping my surrounding area clean. And to keep my beloved pet (and me, of course) healthy and safe, I browsed online for possible places in which the mold could grow.
Black mold or Stachybotrys Chartatum is a fungus that commonly grows in the grout between tiles, I read. Finding this out, I searched around the house for areas which have tiles. None in the kitchen that’s for sure, as I use polished concrete for my floor and kitchen counters. But the bathroom, though, had tiled surfaces everywhere.
While I do regularly clean my bathroom once every two weeks, my focus has always been the toilet seat and the tiles. But I’ve never really taken notice of the grout in between. So I always scrubbed it, but not much attention was spent on turning it white. In fact, I kind of liked the contrasting of the dark grout with the white tiles. Unfortunately, the black gunk in between was apparently harmful.
Because I read that it was potentially harmful while being scrubbed, I called professional grout cleaners to do the dirty work. So, in a day or two we scheduled a meeting, and they proceeded to clean my grout. They were done in a couple of hours.
On the other hand, I cleaned the rest of the place myself, not leaving a single dust bunny lying around. I want to make sure that when my dog is cleared, then this home will be a safe place for him.his home will be a safe place for him.
Water Conservation is Just as Important as Energy Conservation
Right now saving energy and reducing one’s carbon footprint is en vogue. UK residents are racing each other to the “green” finish line as they work to prove that they are saving more energy than their neighbours and friends. People trade energy saving tips the way they used to trade recipe, cleaning or shopping tips.
So much focus is placed upon living the greenest life possible that most are surprised to learn that the waste levels for water are at an all time high. It appears that even the most energy efficient and carbon conscious United Kingdom citizens have yet to understand that saving water is just as important as saving power.
Did you know that the fresh water resources in the United Kingdom will most likely run out within the next thirty to forty years? That seems highly unlikely because of how much rain the United Kingdom receives every year but there are experts who insist that the fresh water resources are not as vast as they originally thought. It is now a fact that both Syria and the Sudan have more fresh water available than the United Kingdom, and these are parts of the world that are known for their arid climates and droughts!
The rate at which water is being wasted is surprising because it is easier to save water than it is to waste it. It is very easy to turn of water faucets and spigots when they are not being used. When it comes time to brush your teeth, simply fill your water cup and use the water from the sink to rinse your toothbrush. Don’t let the water run throughout the entire routine. Your dishwasher most likely has a water saving function built into it.
Showers don’t need to be long”even five minute showers use an incredible amount of water. Only wash dishes or do laundry when you still have a full load. Vegetables can be rinsed off in a pan of water instead of being run under a running faucet. Water can be kept in a pitcher in the refrigerator instead of letting it run to reach the desired cold temperature. A lawn doesn’t need to have sprinklers watering it all day.
It is incredibly easy to conserve the amount of water a person goes through in a single day. Remember, water is the most important substance on the planet and freshwater is a precious resource that should be protected. It is not something that anyone should take for granted. This is why it is just as important to do conserve water as it is to conserve energy! Saving water is easy. Everyone should be able to cut back.
Why Smart People Don’t Mess With Their Garage Door
Most men enjoy to fix a lot of things that get broken in a household. However, when it comes to fixing broken garage doors openings, hiring a specialist is the best possible and recommended solution. The danger is in the tension, the force accumulated by the springs, which can jump and get you seriously hurt or even kill you.
When trying to remove the broken torsion springs of a garage door, their tension gets released, making them move with an incredible force in all directions. Everybody around that spring is exposed to a big danger.
Why would you let yourself killed by a garage door spring, when you can call a specialist and ask him to replace all broken parts, so you can enjoy your garage door again and stay in good health?
If one of your garage door springs needs replacement, you’ll have to actually change both springs. Although only one has been damaged, the other was exposed to the same degree of wearing, so it is possible, if not very probable that it will break over the following days, weeks or months.
Replacing torsion springs requires a special tool called spring tension tool. It helps releasing the spring’s tension, then to tension the new spring in place. Try to rent the device from a garage door company, if you can and if you are convinced you know how to do the operation by yourself.
Modern doors have another kind of springs, which are easier to replace, because they can be tensioned with electric drilling machines. Even so, replacing springs is still not a do it yourself enterprise.
Garage door fixing professionals can be found in Yellow Pages or on the internet, and they are usually fairly cheap, taking into consideration the high level of danger this job implies.
A garage door springs replacement would probably take about 500 dollars out of your pocket. However, in some states, such services may be obtained as cheap as for 75 dollars or so. Do some research within your area and see what you can get.

Tips to Prepare Your House for Moving Day
Whats worse than packing up everything you own? Cleaning up the mess left behind! But the following handy tips should get you ready for moving day with relative ease.
Note: Before using any of the following tips, be sure to do a spot test in an inconspicuous area to test for colorfastness.
Everyday household items can work wonders on many common messes. Use a pencil eraser to remove scuff-marks from woodwork. A hot iron on a low setting and a piece of absorbent cloth can remove wax from hard surfaces and curtains. Press firmly on the cloth with the iron until the wax starts to loosen. Repeat, turning or replacing the cloth as needed. Remove crayon marks from walls by gently rubbing toothpaste on the stain.
Did you know that toothpaste can remove ink and crayon from hard surfaces? Let the toothpaste sit for an hour or so for stubborn stains and then rub gently with a soft cloth.
When washing textured walls, use a nylon sock to avoid leaving lint behind. Apply any cleaning solution (after youve tested for colorfastness) in small patches. You can remove unwanted paint from most woodwork by gently scouring with brass cleaner”not too hard though, or you’ll scratch the wood. Soap scum, dried toothpaste and lime scale will come off with a liberal application of an oxygen-based cleaning powder, which can be found in most supermarkets. Always wash walls from the bottom up to prevent streaking.
Moldy or damp smells can be removed from just about anywhere with baking soda. Simply apply to the smelly area (or leave a box open in a cupboard or fridge) and the smell should be greatly reduced or gone within 24 hours. You can also use activated charcoal, or a few drops of vanilla extract on a piece of cloth.
Finally, never mix cleaning products”many contain ammonia or bleach, and when combined the fumes are deadly. Care should be taken when cleaning any area that has been previously treated with a different solution, because not only are some mixtures deadly, but others can react with one another and cause staining.
