PostHeaderIcon Mineral Lip Gloss: Choosing & Applying for Best Effect

by Marilyn Etzel

Mineral makeup is not just for the eyes and cheeks. What about your lips? They need to be tended to you want an overall natural look of beauty. For your glossing pleasure there are mineral lip glosses to choose from that will complement your facial features.

If mineral makeup comes in crushed powder form, how can it be used on the lips? That’s a good question. It is true that mineral makeup comes in powder form with the main ingredient being crushed earth minerals.

Mineral powder can be used on the lips as well as other areas of the face. You can mix different colors to create never-before-seen shades for the cheeks, eyes and even your lips. The natural earth minerals found in these powders are applied to lipsticks and lip glosses to extend their wear.

Mineral lip gloss

Mineral lip gloss is soft and fluid for your lips just like a traditional lip gloss. Natural ingredients such as beeswax, natural oils and natural nut or fruit butters are used to create rich colors. But let’s not forget the mineral components: titanium oxide, zinc oxide, mica and iron oxides (for color).

You can find lipsticks and lip glosses that don’t use beeswax. Vegans object to beeswax in their cosmetics. This way, they can still have the healthiest makeup products around. Animals are not used in mineral makeup testing. There are no synthetic preservatives present either.

Choosing a lip gloss

Choosing a lip gloss is just like choosing a lipstick. First, you want a color that will complement your skin tone for day wear. The best look of beauty is to enhance the amazing features that you already have. Mineral cosmetics do that quite well.

In the evening, you can take the color up a notch just like you do with your eye shadow. Mix other mineral powder with clear mineral gloss to create a new color just for you. Since the mineral powders contain the same mineral properties, it is okay to do so. Mineral powders can also be mixed and used wet to create new colors.

Applying mineral lip gloss

Mineral lip gloss can be applied in the traditional way. You start with the lower lip and apply it smoothly across and then follow the natural lip line of your upper lip to complete the application. Lip gloss is applied with a natural or synthetic lip brush. It is thin enough for precise application.

Mineral powders can be used as lip liners for your mineral gloss. Choose a color that complements your lip gloss but is a little darker. Add a few drops of water and apply to the natural lip line with a lip liner brush before applying your mineral lip gloss.

Use mineral powders wet and apply to lips. Any color you can create can be mixed and covered with clear gloss to add the shine.

Mineral lip gloss doesn’t have the problem of bleeding line traditional lipsticks. Your lips stay moist and beautiful all day.

PostHeaderIcon Choosing Personal Empowerment: 5 Tips for More Fulfillment

by Deborah Lindholm

Most of us wish for an empowering and fulfilling life, but it is not always a simple thing to achieve. Choosing how to start or what priorities to set isn’t the easiest thing to work out. But you deserve this life you long for, and attaining it is not as difficult as you may think.

Personal empowerment is absolutely attainable. With these 5 steps you begin your path towards actually attaining the fulfillment you are searching for.

#1 Modify your thoughts. One of the most powerful steps towards leading a fulfilling life is to focus on the positive. This means eliminating, or at least significantly reducing that negative self-talk we all participate in from time to time.

Concentrate on positive self-talk, respect yourself and embrace both your strengths and weaknesses as part of who you are is a great place to start living an empowered and fulfilling life.

#2 Understand that you’re a complete being. Physical health, mental and emotional health and even spiritual health are all intricately woven to create a whole being – you. When any one of these is out of balance your entire being is out of balance. For example if you are depressed, it affects your health. If you are stressed, it affects your emotional and physical health. If you lack faith and confidence in your spiritual being then it affects both your emotional and physical health.

In order to achieve fulfillment, balance all areas of your being is what you should be striving for. Work towards good physical health, for spiritual health; seek spiritual guidance and get rid of those emotions limiting your ability to live a complete and balanced life.

#3 Place personal care on your schedule. If you don’t put yourself at the top of your to do list, you will often put off this necessary act. It is in no way selfish to think of yourself; if you are not happy and fulfilled, those around you are not getting all you have to give them. By taking a little time to care for yourself every day, you will be living a balanced and fulfilled life.

Meditate, walk or do some sort of physical exercise, eat for health, laugh, pray if that brings you spiritual contentment, read, take a bubble bath or get a massage. Little bits of self care can go a long way toward personal empowerment and fulfillment.

#4 Try something different. You probably have a list of things you have always wanted to do, or have thought about trying. Maybe it’s something on the extreme side, like skydiving or rock climbing, or a little more on the safe side such as needlecrafts, cooking or even financial management. When you become engaged in life and its many exciting options, self empowerment is right around the corner.

#5 Discover and achieve your goals. When you achieve something from your goal’s list, the feeling inside can be almost magical. You become filled with confidence and pride, and set on the path toward more success in the future. By setting goals that are achievable yet challenging is the key to finding success. Take for example the person who wants to start their own business. By setting smaller goals, you will gradually be growing alongside your new business. Once you achieve any small goal you will find another right behind it, guiding you towards that one single long term goal of a successful small business.

By making the choice to pursue the path of personal empowerment, you will find from that point forward your personal empowerment has begun to take shape. Each small step towards changing the way you approach life will largely impact your personal fulfillment.

PostHeaderIcon The Liquids You Must Never Drink When Treating Psoriasis

by Wayne Hynes

Most people are unaware that the kind of liquids we drink is one of major contributors to persistent skin disorders like psoriasis.

Municipal Water

Water treatment plants draw virtually all their supply from a variety of sources such as lakes, rivers and aquifers.

They are usually treated with such elements as chlorine and fluoride – both toxic elements. Add the lead threat from old piping in homes, and we have a three-pronged attack on our health that cannot be ignored.

Just a short while ago, in March of 2008, CBS News told the nation that large numbers of low-level pharmaceuticals were discovered in the municipal water supplies of no less than 41 million people in the USA.

And, recent studies found an alarming effect on human cells and wildlife after persistent exposure to random combinations of low levels of pharmaceuticals.

Our water treatment plants are unable to effectively remove many drugs, hormones and various chemicals that are found every day in our water supply. And, home filtration systems aren’t much better. They can only remove chlorine, lead and a few other dangerous compounds.

On any given day, you may find chemicals, drugs, chlorine, fluoride, lead and hormones in a random sample of city water. This should cause grave concern to any psoriasis patient.

Recommendation: Avoid drinking municipal water. There are healthier options.

Bottled Waters Made From Municipal Water

All those troubled by psoriasis should steer clear of bottled waters reprocessed from city water systems. Examples are…

Aquafina – reverse osmosis filtered ‘tap water’ purified with charcoal filtration and ozonation. Available in carbonated and flavored varieties sweetened with sucralose*.

Dasani – reverse osmosis filtered ‘tap water’ with minute amounts of synthetic minerals added. Available in flavored varieties sweetened with sucralose*.

*sucralose – controversial chlorinated sugar. It is NOT natural.

Waters Treated by Distillation and Reverse Osmosis

Oddly enough, drinking distilled or reverse osmosis water (with the goal of protecting us from toxins) may have been our own undoing.

These waters are lacking any minerals, and cause a ‘leaching’ effect in our body of such key minerals as calcium.

And, don’t let any water sales person tell you that distilled or reverse osmosis is the ‘best’ water to drink. Back in the 1950s, they used to use distilled water to top up car batteries, along with a WARNING “not fit for human consumption”.

How the times have changed!

Up next…

“The things we must NEVER add to our drinks. If you do, you’ll derail any chance of successfully treating your psoriasis.”

To your health, naturally!

PostHeaderIcon Estrin D to Lose Weight During Menopause

by Ricardo d Argence

Menopause may be a natural stage in a woman’s life but the accompanying weight gain has all women worried. Weight gain is not just bad for cosmetic reasons but also unhealthy too.

Risks related to high blood pressure, according to the most current research, are increased by at least five percent for every two pounds of weight increase. When the estrogen levels in your body decrese, this directly effects the metabolism in your body which makes the body insist on keep its fat resources.

This weight-adding reacts on other health issues too. Weight gain caused by menopause has been linked to an increase in the risk of heart disease, a variety of cancers and type II diabetes.

The modern science along with some pharmaceutical companies has developed certain menopausal weight loss products that claim to ease the weight problems of women. These weight loss products claim to set your metabolism right and even suppress your appetite, which increases in menopause. They also claim to help women in coping with symptoms of menopause and protect them with nutrients.

Estrin is one of the new players in the market of menopausal weight loss products. It claims to have ingredients like caffeine, guarana, yerba, matte and herbal constituents like damiana, ginger, schisandra and Tibetan ginseng. These ingredients are said to help in regulating appetite, increasing metabolism and reduce mood swings, which result from fluctuations in hormonal levels. They are all known to increase the basal metabolic rate in a person. The caffeine present in the product is a natural stimulant as well. However, the question that arises is that can this be used by women undergoing menopause?

Medical research tells us that caffeine during menopause is not such a good idea. Caffeine in normal circumstances can cause an increase in the heart rate, increase blood pressure, sweating. It’s seen that women experiencing menopause can experience some ill effects if they take caffeine. The classic menopausal symptoms like hot flashes, insomnia and night sweats may become more pronounced by consuming caffeine. Caffeine consumption can also cause osteoporosis in women during menopause.

User reviews indicate that the product contains high levels of stimulants, and this is not something that women who are experiencing menopause should be exposed to. These stimulants may cause nausea, anxiety and jitters in women. Besides, stimulants do not guarantee sustained weight loss. There also appear to be no appetite suppressants in it’s formula. Caffeine will not produce any significant fat loss when compared to a patented fat burner. Despite how much it costs, there is no guarantee of getting your money back.

Menopause problems can be overcome by proper diet and exercise rather than these supplements. These supplements do more harm than good due to such a high amount of stimulants. All you need to do is cut the fat and the fried foods in your diet and exercise regularly.

PostHeaderIcon Is Organic the right choice?

by Kiiera Success Group

Since organic food started to gain popularity in the late 1990s, people have been skeptical about the superiority of organics. Many people claimed that the benefits of organic over traditional products could not be proven. The truth is that there had simply not been enough testing done to prove the benefits of organic products or the drawbacks of traditionally produced food.

There have been various studies done to show the improved nutritional value of organic agriculture by analyzing the vitamin, nutrient, and mineral content of both organically and traditionally grown produce. There are significantly higher levels of various components in organic products, including:

* Chromium, prevents hardening of the arteries and type 2 diabetes * Calcium and Boron, build strong bones and prevent osteoporosis * Lithium, a common chemical in antidepressants and mood stabilizers * Salicylic acid, an anti-inflammatory which can prevent heart disease * Antioxidants, protect cells from damage * Magnesium, helps prevent death during a heart attack * Selenium, helps prevent heart disease and certain cancers * Vitamin C, builds the immune system

While this list seems rather long, its not complete. While these nutrients have been found organic produce, they arent the only ones. This list could also get longer as more research is done about the nutrient benefits of organic food.

While its important to look at the beneficial properties of organic food, we must take into account the harmful effects of traditionally grown foods to fully understand why organic food is superior. When many of the chemicals used in farming were approved, there had been little research to show whether or not these chemicals we harmful. Research has since found that most of these chemicals have negative effects on humans. Non-organic foods have been analyzed and have been found to contain harmful chemicals, heavy metals, solvents, and various hormones. Some of the conditions linked with these substances include:

* cancer * heart disease * osteoporosis * migraines * hyperactivity * decreased intelligence * impaired hearing * less growth in childhood * anemia * Alzheimers * multiple sclerosis * rheumatoid arthritis * early puberty * increase in antibiotic-resistant disease strains

Again, this list is just part of the harmful side effects of these chemicals. There are likely many more conditions to be added to this list after more research is done. Also, most of the research has been done on the affects of single chemicals, and not multiple offenders as are normally found on conventional food. While several of these chemicals have been banned, they are still present in regular and organic food. This is because they linger in the soil; some have been there for over 20 years.

While there are obviously many benefits to organic agriculture, it is not without its faults. First of all, organic products are more expensive. Depending on where you buy organic food, it could cost twice as much as regular grocery store brands. There is also concern that natural fertilizers such as plant material and manure could contain harmful organisms, such as e coli. Although this can be rare it can also make consumers very sick.

Even with the drawbacks, organic food production is proving to be much safer for consumption than other foods available. Along with the health benefits, organic agricultural practices also benefit the environment; keeping it viable for years to come.

PostHeaderIcon Menopause and Weight Loss, Natural Remedies

by Ricardo d Argence

For many women, menopause is a challenging time of transition from the reproductive years to the post-childbearing years. Menopause occurs when female hormones naturally decline, and a woman’s body stops causing egg follicles to mature every month in preparation for pregnancy.

Sadly, menopause may be hard for certain females since it frequently produces unpleasant side effects. These can include hot flashes, insomnia, night sweats, mood swings, vaginal dryness, loss of interest in sex, and irritability. Weight gain can be another common, but unexpected, symptom of menopause.

Even women who don’t change their eating and exercise habits during menopause may experience weight gain. This can be frustrating, prompting women to wonder what caused this sudden and unexpected weight gain. Weight gain can also be a result of hormonally triggered overeating. Another cause of weight gain is the natural metabolic slow-down that happens as people age. When a woman’s metabolic rate slows during menopause, any extra calories ingested have a far greater effect than they did pre-menpausal.

Estrogen and body fat work together in a unique way. Body fat helps regulate the production of estrogen, which declines dramatically in menopause. Sometimes, the body will fight to hold on to fat in an effort to stabilize estrogen levels. Hormones and the fat in body is linked together in complex which affect in gaining weight through changes in appetite, digestion, and metabolism.

Not talking about prescription hormone therapy, thus increasing the risk of breast cancer and reproductive system cancers, there are some natural therapies for women to combat the increasing use of menopausal symptoms such as weight gain. Some of these remedies include black cohosh and sage, to regulate hot flashes; chasteberry, for moodiness and general hormonal imbalance; and evening primrose oil, widely used to relieve PMS during perimenopause and control moodiness in menopausal women.

Many women mistakenly believe that these remedies will prevent weight gain and other menpausal symtpoms by themselves. The fact is that the most you can to to prevent or even eliminate weight gain while going through menopause is to eat well and work out.

A more effective approach to maintaining a healthy hormone balance is through a natural approach of eating nutrient dense, whole foods rather than using herbal remedies. A lot of women believe that a healthy lifestyle is more beneficial, during an illness, than herbal remedies.

Eating a nutritious diet involves avoiding bad fats, and instead eating heart-healthy fats in moderation. Whole grains, fruits, and vegetables should form the bulk of the diet, supplemented by lean protein and dairy foods (or non-dairy foods that contain calcium). Avoid food alcohol, spicy foods, and caffeine if these exacerbate your menopause symptoms, and of course, avoid fried or fatty foods, excess sugar, and junk in general.

If you drink 8 cups of water daily and work out for approximately a half hour as many times as possible weekly, then you will be making progress towards losing a lot of weight, even if you’re going through menopause. As you adopt a healthy diet and exercise plan that keeps your hormone levels on an even pace, you will see that the symptoms of menopause will lessen.

PostHeaderIcon Preventative Steps to Help You Fall Asleep Faster

by Rose K Taylor

It is discouraging to turn in for the night knowing you’re only going to have problems falling or staying asleep. Sometimes it’s easier to just stay awake and finish tasks or watch television than it is to lie in bed hoping that by some miracle sleep will come.

Some struggle with the choice to take or not to take sleep aids to get the rest they need. While sleep aids can give you some sleep if you have the time to devote to sleep, you can end up groggy the next morning. Some don’t want to become dependent on medication. If that includes you, here are some suggestions:

Avoid consuming stimulants : When it’s time for bed, nothing should hinder you from getting some sleep. To that end, avoid anything containing products that will raise your heart rate and keep you alert. This includes soda, alcohol, tobacco, and coffee of course. Alcohol is not a stimulant but it does interrupt sleep patterns.

Use your bed for lovemaking and sleep: Conduct work, watch television, and read in other rooms of the house. Leave the bedroom for activities that are traditional to it. Sleep and lovemaking are both relaxing. You want to stay in that frame of mind in your bedroom.

Get moving: Exercising regularly will help your body seek sleep for repairing itself. The American Heart Association recommends getting at least 30 minutes of cardio activity daily.

Establish a routine: Establishing a routine is important for everyone but especially for those who suffer from sleep disorders. Doing the same quieting activities at each night will teach your body and mind that it is time to unwind. A warm bath or shower before bed can help you to relax.

Be comfortable: A place that’s warm and relaxing will invite sleep. Keep the room dark, if necessary use an eye mask. Try to ensure that your bedroom is quiet and if this is difficult wear ear plugs. Make sure the room temperature is cool and well ventilated. It is worth investing in good quality pillows and bed covers, after all you spend one third of your life in bed.

Don’t put pressure on yourself:: Telling yourself over and over that you must fall asleep right now will only heighten your stress and prevent you from drifting off. Instead of pressuring yourself, think about something relaxing such as a vacation or happy past events.

Relax your muscles: A relaxed body will melt into the sheets of your bed. An aid for that is a relaxation routine. Slow down your breathing. Breathe in slowly, hold it for a few moments, and then let the air out just as slowly. In your mind, imagine the anxiety and exhaustion are drifting away as you float on the sheets. Repeat the technique every night.

PostHeaderIcon Your Guardian Of Good Health, HDL Cholesterol

by Ned Dagostino

A healthy level of HDL cholesterol guarantees protection against heart disease. HDL cholesterol is instrumental in controlling its bad cousin, LDL cholesterol. Let’s learn how to maintain a healthy HDL cholesterol level.

Simply put, we should do our best to enhance the level of HDL (good) cholesterol and reduce the level of LDL (bad) cholesterol.

Modern allopathy has a number of medicines in its armory which can combat heart disease. These must be taken under medical guidance because their incorrect use may endanger your very life. Here are some alternative therapies which can reduce your risk of heart disease safely, simply. The first is cardiovascular exercise which improves the health of the circulatory system. Cardiovascular exercise is a proven therapeutic activity to bring your cholesterol to a healthy level.

The American Heart Association recommends a daily dose of thirty minutes of cardiovascular exercise to control bad cholesterol. A very different opinion is voiced by Dr. Joseph Mercola. He says that the dose recommended by the AHA is insufficient to control bad cholesterol. Fundamental to his opinion is the mode of exercise, not its duration. Walking in the park for an hour will not get the heart pumping strongly enough to flush out the bad cholesterol. Exercise must make you ‘exert’ yourself; it must leave you near enough to exhaustion, that you feel breathless. He does issue 3 caveats to go along with this: don’t overdo it, each person has to determine his own exertion point to avoid collapsing and complicating an already bad situation, and this must be done under supervision. He agrees with the AHA that cardiovascular exercise must be done regularly everyday for it to be effective to any significant degree.

To help your HDL cholesterol to remain at a healthy level, you should not have any food which contains heavy amounts of LDL cholesterol. Saturated fats as food items or as cooking medium are notorious in this regard. Omega-3 and mono-unsaturated oils and fats are good for HDL cholesterol.

Some fats like omega-3 fats actually enhance the level of HDL cholesterol. Include fish in your diet because they are rich sources of these beneficial fats. Margarine and creamy and sugary processed food items are bad for HDL cholesterol, and should be restricted. Dietary control coupled with regular cardiovascular exercise will improve your HDL cholesterol level.

What else can you do to improve your HDL cholesterol level? You can change the bad habits that are part of modern life. Cigarette smoking destroys the HDL cholesterol in the blood. Stop smoking to prevent this destruction of beneficial HDL cholesterol. Obesity increases the level of bad HDL cholesterol. Regular workouts can reduce obesity and improve the cholesterol balance.

One more question on the subject of lifestyle: Are you a bundle of nerves? If yes, then you must get a hold of yourself immediately. Stress can trigger your LDL cholesterol to shoot through the roof and that can mean an imminent heart attack or stroke! Implement stress management techniques. It’s very simple really, really! Be prepared for the stress attack before it attacks. When you see Bob walking in, you psyche yourself into playing it cool. After Bob plays himself out, you’ll find that you’re not the one who’s stressed, Bob is!

Cardiovascular exercise, dietary control, and lifestyle modification: these are the three important ways to a better cholesterol situation. Follow the steps we’ve put together for you and your risk of suffering heart disease will just fade away. Have a healthy, happy life!
