One of the popular fad diets in Hollywood was the grapefruit diet. Stars and starlets used it as far back as the 1930s. Then in the 70′s it became a piece of fax junk, sent from machine to machine, and became known as the xerox lore. The Mayo Clinic, which is often credited as the diet’s creator, claims to have nothing to do with this unhealthy diet.

The grapefruit diet is essentially like the Atkins diet with the addition of a grapefruit before each meal. The diet only allows three meals each day, with no snacking in between meals. Supposedly a person on this diet could lose 10 pounds in only 10 days.

The distribution was just as far fetched no weight loss for four days then five pounds lost all on the fifth day. It was based on the claim that grapefruit contains fat burning enzymes, something that has never been proven.

In 2004 it was proven that the diet may work. Eating grapefruit prior to meals helped people in the study lose 3.6 pounds in twelve weeks. Drinking the juice from the grapefruit led to only slightly less weight loss. A few of the participants lost an astounding 10 pounds.

Researchers credited the weight loss to decreased insulin levels caused by eating the grapefruit. But the study didn’t limit people to just diet, they also exercised more which may have resulted in the weight loss.

The grapefruit diet works like this:

- Drink eight servings of water a day. – Eat only until you are full at each meal. – Eat every item of food listed for each meal because the menus are formulated to burn fat. – The catalyst to the whole process is grapefruit, so don’t skip it. – One cup of coffee can be consumed at each meal. – No snacking between meals. – Eat butter if you want. – Do not eat desserts, sweet potatoes,breads or white vegetables. – You can eat meats and green vegetables. – Eat until full in order to maximize weight loss. – Stay on the diet for twelve days, skip 2 days, then start over again. – Eat one half grapefruit, or drink a 18 ounce glass of grapefruit, with each meal.

If this seems like an easy diet to maintain then the grapefruit diet may be for you.

When the microorganism known as Candida starts to be produced uncontrollably by the human body, either in or outside the body, their is potential for chronic yeast infection. Controlled candida or yeast is beneficial, even needed by the body but production may get out of control due to a number of circumstances.

Chronic yeast infections can be due to two circumstances ” one is that it has become resistant to treatments or two; it has become a recurrent affliction. Whichever caused it, a chronic yeast infection may be caused by other far more serious illness, or it can cause other more serious diseases.

Systemic candidal disease or chronic yeast infections can be quite deadly. The yeast takes over the body on a massive scale. So much so that only one in four people with chronic yeast infection survive. Simple yeast infections such as oral yeast infection and genital candida that isn’t helped by common anti-fungal medication may already be causing other illnesses in the body.

Cancer, leukemia, AIDS and diabetes can all contribute to the spread and overgrowth of candida. They do this be weakening the body’s immune system thereby upsetting the balance in the yeast production. The can lead to chronic yeast infection.

Individuals with AIDS can contract chronic yeast infection in the esophagus that may lead to infection of the entire gastro intestinal system and this is a severely painful condition. Chronic yeast infection in the gastro intestinal system can lead to improper absorption of food and cause the body to become weaker. Cuts and wounds on the skin may also allow the yeast to get into the blood stream and cause chronic yeast infection. It can lead to fevers and an infection to get into brain and affect mental functions.

Chronic mucocutaneous candidiasis is another form of chronic yeast infection. It is characterized by rashes in the mouth, on the fingernails, extremities and any other part of the body. It appears to be scales, scabs or lesions.

AIDS and cancer patients can easily contract chronic yeast infections. In the latter stages of the AIDS infection the patients immune system weakens to the point that the appearance of thrush is almost constant. Cancer patients not only have to deal with the weakened immune system from the spread of the cancer cells but radiation and chemotherapy can also cause chronic yeast infection.

Diabetes mellitus also makes some body parts prone to chronic yeast infection especially the mouth area. People with diabetes have high sugar content in their saliva and sugar feeds yeast fungus.

Treat even superficial yeast infections properly or you could develop chronic yeast infections. Also once contracted, chronic yeast infections have a habit of reappearing. Infections require proper diagnosis from a health professional.

There are many different causes of ovarian cysts. Under the normal menstrual cycle, ovaries grow cyst-like structures called follicles each month. These follicles produce hormones necessary for pregnancy such as estrogen and progesterone. Ovarian cysts can form when a normal follicle continues to grow for an abnormal period of time.

Follicular cysts are among the most usual type. These cysts rarely have symptoms, usually harmless and disappear on their own. Ovarian cysts affecting the follicle are caused by the release of hormones from the pituitary gland that is supposed to initiate the release of an egg. Failure to release the egg makes the follicle continue to grow and develop into a cyst.

Frequent causes of ovarian cysts occur when luteinizing hormones surge and an egg is release. When the egg is released, estrogen and progesterone are created by the ruptured follicle to prepare for the hypothetical conception. When the egg is sealed off, fluid accumulates inside the follicle and becomes what is called a corpus luteum. The corpus luteum will then expand and at that point becomes a cyst.

Corpus luteum cysts usually disappear on their own without treatment within a few weeks. In the meantime, however, it can grow to nearly 4 inches in diameter. It can also bleed into itself or twist the ovary. This can cause severe pelvic and abdominal pain. Moreover, if the corpus luteum cyst fills with blood, the cyst may rupture. This can cause internal bleeding and sudden, sharp pain.

Clomiphene citrate, a commonly prescribed fertility drug to induce ovulation, might be a cause of ovarian cysts. Usage of this drug may result in an increased risk that a corpus luteum cyst might develop. Corpus luteum cysts by themselves do not pose a risk to pregnancy.

Hemorrhagic or endometrioid cysts are cysts that contain blood and develop like the other ovarian cysts. The blood composition of the cyst comes from an injury or from blood vessel leakage into the egg sac. Some causes of ovarian cysts can be attributed to the bleeding and shedding endometrial tissue that imbeds itself in the ovaries. This build up will eventually rupture and cause pelvic pain.

Though it is not possible to completely prevent the causes of ovarian cysts, increasing exercise, controlling stress, improving the quality of your diet, and improving your health can help minimize the probability of the development of an ovarian cyst.

You should combine your diet changes with an exercise routine. The idea is to burn the fat off and develop muscle to replace the fat. To do this you need to combine both weights and cardio focusing on those areas which is affected by cellulite.

For the cardio you can do any type of exercise that will raise you heart rate, getting you breathing heavily and burning fat. This could be walking, stair climbing or cycling. Don’t forget to warm up and cool down properly to avoid any injuries.

When choosing a muscle building exercise you should choose one that focuses on the problem area. So, for example, if your problem area is your thighs then you should select an exercise like lunges, leg press or squats as these will tone the area around the cellulite and help increase the muscle. Make sure you exercise these muscles intensively.

To prevent injuries and muscle soreness, you should warm up and down properly and do some stretching at the end of the workout. This is important but not necessarily done by many people at the gym.

A simple and easy method to minimize the look of cellulite is to have a spray on tan done. The more dark your skin is the less likely people will notice the cellulite. However, you shouldn’t tan in the sun if you have cellulite as the UV light will damage the skin and make the cellulite even more problematic.
